What’s the difference between a warranty, a vehicle service contract and a product policy? When you purchase a vehicle brand new you receive a warranty from the manufacturer. That manufacturer guarantees their parts with a warranty which pays for the labor and replacement parts when they break down. When the warranty runs out you can purchase a vehicle service contract, much like insurance, a 3rd party assumes the risk of a vehicles future breakdowns specific to each policy. In other words, different age of vehicles and different mileage qualifies for different levels of coverage, which pays for covered parts and labor. The third option is what’s known as a product policy, when you purchase a product policy you receive items that must be used in order to have your vehicle policy protection activated. These products will protect those associated parts from a breakdown. This type of policy is ideal for older vehicles because the products are designed to help aid against mechanical breakdown. A product policy differs from a service contract in that you are purchasing a product as opposed to a service. When a breakdown does occur on these associated parts, then the policy pays for the covered parts and labor like a service contract or a warranty.
